Mission

The Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board, working in partnership with the Chief Elected Office (Lowell City Manager) provides policy guidance for workforce development initiatives in the Greater Lowell area.

The Board works in concert with business, education, labor and other agencies dedicated to improving and promoting economic sufficiency for residents of Greater Lowell.

Who We Are

The Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board (GLWIB) is a private non-profit organization consisting of private business representatives, educational leaders, community based organizations, local and state agencies, economic and other workforce development groups.

Summer Programs/Summer Jobs for Youth

Summer Jobs for Youth -- Youthworks

The Career Center of Lowell operates Youthworks, which provides eligible * teens 14-21 with work experience internships during the months of July and August. Youth are paid the prevailing minimum wage {currently $8.00/hr} and allowed to work up to 25 hrs each week for about 8 weeks. Internship placements are brokered in non-profit, government, and municipal Agencies and offices throughout Lowell and the Greater Lowell area. Applications will be available in April. Availability on the numbers of Internships we offer is contingent upon funding. Youth are encouraged to apply early.

* Eligibility varies for different grants. At a minimum youth served in this program must meet income guidelines for the economically disadvantaged. Other criteria can be: receiving free lunch, youth on IEP, and U.S. citizen etc.
