Youth Programs

Summer Programs/Shannon Grant

For the past two summers the Greater Lowell WIB and the Career Center of Lowell have partnered with the Lowell Police Department in the administration of grant funds from Charles Shannon Safety Initiative. As a result of this influx of additional funds we have been able to expand our summer job opportunities for approximately 40 youth each summer.

Youth have earned valuable work experience in positions such as Summer Camp Counselors, Office support staff, Maintenance workers (in-door and out-door) Child Care Assistant and in Food Service Workers. Throughout their internship, Supervisor's have applied the competencies as outlined in the Massachusetts Work Based Learning Plan {MWBLP}.

After each summer, these completed documents have become a part of each youths' work history which in turn builds upon the youths work histories.
