The Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board, working in partnership with the Chief Elected Office (Lowell City Manager) provides policy guidance for workforce development initiatives in the Greater Lowell area.

The Board works in concert with business, education, labor and other agencies dedicated to improving and promoting economic sufficiency for residents of Greater Lowell.

The Greater Lowell Workforce Investment Board (GLWIB) is a private non-profit organization consisting of private business representatives, educational leaders, community based organizations, local and state agencies, economic and other workforce development groups.

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas and Governor Deval Patrick Discuss Benefits of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Governor Visits GLWIB/Career Center of Lowell

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas joined Governor Deval Patrick and Senator Steve Panagiotakos at the GLWIB/Career Center of Lowell on Monday, December 14, 2009 to provide an overview of ARRA benefits within the Merrimack Valley and the Fifth Congressional District.

The event was attended by over one-hundred participants and Fifth District residents including firefighters, teachers, construction workers and others who have directly benefited from job retention or creation as a direct result of ARRA funding. Stimulus funding in the Fifth District has totaled more than $350M and, in addition to job retention and creation, has also assisted local agencies and educational providers through the awarding of grants for research and development, weatherization projects and capital improvements andthe Youth Summer Job Program.

The GLWIB and the Career Center of Lowell were pleased to host this event recognizing the many benefits of ARRA in helping to address workforce challenges in the Greater Lowell Region and throughout the Merrimack Valley.
