The WIB & Career Center of Lowell
The Greater Lowell WIB performs the following vital functions:
- Evaluates the Career Center of Lowell's youth activities, and other employment/ training activities under WIA in partnership with the CEO (Lowell City Manager), including determination of resource allocations, services priorities, and ITA vendors' eligibility
- Develops and Negotiates performance standards with the State and other local performance indicators as appropriate
- Partners with economic development agencies to create, retain,and expand businesses
- Expands awareness and support of workforce development issues in Greater Lowell
- Establishes policy guidance for the distribution of $5 million dollars in workforce related funding in the Greater Lowell area
- Provides technical assistance and informational guidance for local companies interested in tax credit programs
- Provides technical assistance on direct funded grants including the Workforce Training Fund and Hiring Incentive Training Grants (provided through Comm. of MA to employers for incumbent or new worker training)
- Generates labor market data/ reports as requested by local businesses, city/ town governments, and social/community service agencies
- Oversees, convenes, and manages workforce development grant writing activities for employment and training grant opportunities
- Acts as liaison with local, state, and federal elected officials regarding workforce development policy
Through the guidance of the Greater Lowell WIB, the Career Center of Lowell is chartered as a collaborative and administered by the City of Lowell and the Massachusetts Division of Career Services. This highly regarded Career Center provided the highest quality customer service. The Career Center:
- works with employers in identifying and meeting their employment needs
- providing job seekers with a wide range of employment and training opportunities
- provide the following services to the public on a daily basis:
- on site employer recruitment
- employer job listing
- employer recruitment and screening
- one on one job search assistance with job seekers
- conduct workshops
- assistance with unemployment insurance
- maintain resource room facilities
- provide career advice for job seekers
